Mit dem Typ Manic GT wurde im Jahre 1969 der Versuch gestartet, ein Auto auf den kanadischen Markt zu bringen, das die Herzen der sportlichen Fahrer erobern sollte.

Die Idee dazu hatte Jaques About, der in der Mitte der 1960er im Pressebereich von Renault-Canada tätig war. Aufmerksam verfolgte er den Automarkt in Europa, insbesondere als der kleine Sportwagen Alpine A 110 über Renault-Frankreich bei den Renault-Händlern gekauft werden konnte. Auf seine Frage, ob man auch in Canada offiziell den Alpine-Sportwagen über das Renault-Vertriebsnetz den Kunden anbieten wollte, bekam About eine Absage. Dies war genau die Antwort, die er haben wollte und sofort machte er sich daran, seine eigene Idee zu realisieren. Er trieb Investoren auf und gestaltete eine Karosserie aus Fiberglas auf ein Renault-Fahrgestell. Mit einem Renault-Motor ausgestattet, stellte About seinen kleinen Sportwagen auf der Montreal Auto-Show im April 1969 vor. Die Begeisterung beim Publikum schien die Erwartungen seines Schöpfers nicht nur zu erfüllen, sondern bei weitem zu übertreffen.

Mit Anlauf der Produktion ab Oktober 1969 ergab sich dadurch jedoch ein Problem, denn Firmeninhaber Jaques About hatte so viele Aufträge vorliegen, dass er Neukunden mit einer Wartezeit von bis zu zwei Monaten vertrösten musste. Was so hoffnungsvoll begann, endete schon nach kurzer Zeit. Das französische Mutterhaus von Renault verzögerte immer wieder die Lieferungen der dringend benötigten Fahrgestelle und Motoren, so dass die Produktion des Manic GT zunehmend ins Stocken geriet. Das Jahr 1970 konnte die Firma noch überbrücken, doch für 1971 gab es keine Rettung mehr – nach nur 160 gefertigten Exemplaren des Manic GT wurde die Montage bei der Firma L’Ecurie Manic Inc. für immer eingestellt

In 1969 a test was started with the Manic GT to put a car on the Canadian market, which should conquer the hearts of the sporty driver.

The idea came from Jacques About, who was working in the press section of Renault-Canada in the mid-1960s. He closely followed the European automobile market, especially the small sports car “Alpine A 110” of Renault France that could be bought at the Renault dealers. In response of his question, if you can officially offer in Canada an Alpine sports car over the Renault distribution network to the customer, but he was rejected. This was exactly the answer that he wanted, and he started immediately to turn over this own idea. He found investors and created a car body made of fiberglass by using the platform and running gear of Renault. Equipped with a Renault engine, About presented his small sports car on the Montreal auto show in 1969. The enthusiasm of the public fulfilled not only the expectations of the creator, but surpassed it by far.

Production kicked off in October 1969, and a new problem arose quite quickly.  Jacques About received so many orders that he had to feed off his new customers with a waiting time of up to two months. What began so promisingly, ended after a short time. The French parent company of Renault delayed again and again the delivery of the urgently needed running gears and engines which in turn caused production of the Manic GT to increasingly slow down. The company could bridge the year 1970, however in 1971 there was no hope. After 160 examples had been produced of the Manic GT, the assembly of the company L´Ecurie Manic was definitely discontinued.
