Das staatliche Ministry of Technology hatte es sich in der Mitte der 1960er Jahre zur Aufgabe gemacht, das produzierende Gewerbe über neue Produktionstechniken und -alternativen sowie Kosteneinsparungen in der laufenden Fertigung zu informieren. Da die oberste Behörde es offenbar nicht für möglich hielt, die über die gesamte britische Insel verteilten Firmen in organisierten Meetings informieren zu können, beschloss das Ministerium, man werde eben selbst zu den Kunden fahren und mittels Filmen und Vorträgen die verantwortlichen Manager über die Neuheiten am Markt zu instruieren.

Für diesen Zweck erteilte das Ministerium ab 1967 den Auftrag, sieben Promotion-Trucks zusammen mit Anhängern auf die Räder zu stellen. In den Genuss der staatlichen Aufgabe kam die Firma Coventry Steel Caravans (CSC) – ein Unternehmen, das sich in der Caravan-Szene mit seinen Camping-Anhängern einen wohlklingenden Namen gemacht hatte. Als Basis für die mobilen Kinowagen wurde der Unterbau des Omnibusses vom Typ Bedford SB 3 gewählt. Bei der Firma CSC wurden die serienmäßigen Bedford-Busse mit einem komplett neuen Aufbau versehen. Auf bis zu 24 Sitzplätzen konnten die Manager sich die Neuerungen der Wirtschaft auf einer Leinwand ansehen, die sich unmittelbar hinter am hinteren Ende der Kabine befand. Das filmische Equipment wurde von einer Plexiglaskuppel oberhalb des Fahrerhauses aus gesteuert. Im mitgeführten Anhänger konnten in Displays noch weitere Erkenntnisse über die Filme hinaus gewonnen werden.

Die insgesamt sieben Bedford-Züge absolvierten von 1967 bis 1974 ihre Auftragstouren quer über die gesamte britische Insel. Das auftraggebende Ministerium trat dabei nur als Initiator auf, durchgeführt wurden die Fahrten und die Lehrstunden durch das Unternehmen PERA - Production Engineering Research Association.

Mid of the 1960s, the public Ministry of Technology had set itself to inform the manufacturing industry about new production techniques, alternatives and about cost savings during the running production process. As the supreme authority considered a centrally organized meeting of all companies, which were spread throughout the whole British Isles, improbable, the Ministry decided to visit the companies and to inform the responsible managers with lectures and movies about the innovations and news of the market locally.

For this purpose, the Ministry of Technology ordered seven promotion trucks with trailers in 1967. The company Coventry Steel Caravans (CSC), a company that built up reputation within the camping scene with its camping trailers, won the bid. As base for the cinema on wheels served the chassis of the omnibus Type Bedford SB 3. The company CSC fitted the standard Bedford bus chassis with a completely new body work. On up to 24 seats the managers could watch the innovations of the economy on a cinema screen that was located at the rear end of the interior. The cinematic equipment was controlled from a Plexiglas dome above the driver’s cab. Inside the trailer several displays were fitted which gave complementary and additional information beyond the shown movies.

Overall seven Bedford truck-trailer combinations were on the roads across the United Kingdom between 1967 and 1974. The Ministry of Technology just acted as the initiator, the tour and the trainings were held by the company Production Engineering Research Association (PERA).
