1945 standen die freiwilligen Feuerwehren in Deutschland vor dem Problem der Motorisierung ihres Fuhrparks. In dieser misslichen Situation musste improvisiert werden, denn eine Versorgung mit fahrfertigen, feuerwehrspezifischen Autos war nicht zu erwarten.

In dieser Lage befand sich auch die freiwillige Feuerwehr in Hofheim im Taunus. Ein Opel Admiral, der aus militärischem Bestand den Krieg überdauerte stand glücklicherweise zur Verfügung. Zusammen mit ortsansässigen Firmen und eigener Tatkraft wandelten sie den Vorkriegsopel in einen Löschwagen um. Zu Gute kam ihnen dabei, dass der Admiral 1937 der erste Opel war, bei dem die Karosserie nicht mit dem Unterboden fest verbunden war und damit keinen selbsttragenden Aufbau besaß. Damit war der Weg frei, die Karosse den eigenen Bedürfnissen nach anzupassen. Dies hieß in erster Linie, am Heck wurde ein Aufbau mit Schlauchrollen montiert und zwecks eines schnellen Ein- und Ausstiegs wurde auf jegliche Türe verzichtet. Auch das Dach fiel diesem Gedankengang zum Opfer. Aus optischer Sicht war der Umbau, vor allem im Heckbereich, ganz auf eine pragmatische Nutzung ausgerichtet. Lediglich die Front beließen die ambitionierten Techniker in seiner ursprünglichen Form. Der Abschluss in roter Lackierung markierte den letzten Schritt hin zum Einsatz bei der Brandwache.

Der umfunktionierte Opel erfüllte bei der Freiwilligen Feuerwehr in Hofheim die Aufgabe des Mannschaftstransports, denn bis zu neun Mann konnten auf den beiden Holzbänken zu ihrem nächsten Einsatz fahren. An der Anhängerkupplung wurde oftmals ein Kraftspritzen-Anhänger 0,75 t mitgenommen. Dem kräftigen Motor dürfte diese Belastung keine Probleme bereit haben. Mit dem Anhänger erreichte der Löschwagen eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 90 km/h, Solo waren es sogar 120 km/h - bei einem Normal-Benzinverbrauch von bis zu 40 Litern pro 100 Kilometern!

In 1945, the voluntary fire brigades in Germany were faced with the problem of motorizing their fleets. In this unfortunate situation, improvisation was the solution as a supply of ready-to-drive, fire-brigade-specific cars was not to be expected.

The volunteer fire brigade in Hofheim (Taunus) also faced this problem. An Admiral, which survived the war from military stock, was fortunately available. Together with local companies and their own energy, they converted the pre-war Opel into a fire truck. They benefited from the fact that the Admiral was the first Opel in 1937 in which the body was not firmly connected to the underbody and thus did not have a self-supporting structure. This cleared the way to adapt the body to your own needs. This meant first and foremost, at the rear a superstructure with hose castors was mounted and for a quick entry and exit any door was dispensed with. The roof also fell victim to this train of thought. From a visual point of view, the conversion, especially the rear area, was completely designed towards pragmatic use. Only the front was left in its original design. The finish in red paint marked the last step of the conversion.

The converted Opel fulfilled its task of transporting the crew of the volunteer fire brigade of Hofheim, as up to nine fire men could drive on the two wooden benches to their next mission. A power sprayer trailer of 0.75 t was often taken on the towbar – a weight that should not have caused any problems for the powerful engine. With the trailer, the fire truck reached a top speed of 90 km/h, without it was even 120 km/h – with a normal fuel consumption of up to 40 liters per 100 kilometers!

En 1945, les pompiers volontaires allemands sont confrontés au problème de la motorisation de leurs flottes. Dans cette période difficile de fin de guerre, il ne fallait pas s'attendre à un approvisionnement de véhicules spécifiques aux pompiers. L'improvisation était la règle !

Comme toutes les autres brigades, les pompiers volontaires de Hofheim (Taunus) étaient confrontés à ce problème. Par bonheur, une Opel Admiral, ayant survécu à la guerre dans un stock militaire, était disponible. En utilisant les entreprises locales et leur propre énergie, cette Opel d'avant-guerre s’est reconvertie en camion de pompiers.

Ils ont profité du fait que cette Admiral de 1937 était la première Opel pour laquelle la carrosserie n'était pas fermement reliée au châssis et n'avait donc pas de structure autoportante. Ils avaient toute latitude pour une transformation adaptée à leurs besoins. Ils ont donc créé une superstructure à l'arrière et surtout sans portes pour que les entrées et sorties des hommes soient rapides. Le toit a également été victime de cette volonté. D'un point de vue visuel, en particulier sur la zone arrière, la voiture est nettement conçue pour une utilisation pragmatique. Seul l'avant a été gardé dans sa conception originale. La peinture rouge marquait le point final et reconnaissable de son utilisation future !

Cette Opel remplissait parfaitement sa tâche, puisque neuf pompiers pouvaient s’installer sur les deux bancs en bois et être conduits jusqu'à leur prochaine mission. Une remorque de pulvérisateur à moteur de 0,75 t était souvent ajoutée sur la barre de remorquage – ce qui ne devait pas causer de problèmes pour son puissant moteur. Avec celle-ci, ce petit camion ne pouvait pas rouler au-delà de 90 km/h, bien qu’il pût atteindre 120 km/h. Doit-on parler de sa consommation ?  Jusqu'à 40 litres aux 100 kilomètres… mais pour sauver des vies, on ne compte pas.
