Das neue, 184-seitige Buch „AutoCult“ Edition 2020 ist nicht irgendein Buch – es ist das Buch für automobile Enthusiasten die mehr über vergessene Automobile, Marken, Entwicklungen und Automobil-Designer wissen möchten. Ob selten, schnell oder verrückt – viele interessante Geschichten in Verbindung mit historischem Hintergrund, flankiert mit vielen historischen Fotos und Bildern der AutoCult-Modelle aus dem Jahr 2020 machen dieses Buch zu einem Muss für den Interessierten automobiler Geschichte.

Auf der `8. Internationale technischen Konferenz für Experimentalfahrzeuge` im Oktober 1980, einer für den gewöhnlichen Autofahrer eher unbekannten Ausstellung, stellte Porsche einen Typ 928 aus, dem das Kürzel `PES` angehängt wurde. Diese drei Buchstaben bargen keinen neuen Typ in sich, sondern standen ausgeschrieben für `Porsche Experimental Structure`.

Auf den ersten Blick sah der nur halbfertige Wagen wie ein Baukastenfahrzeug aus, dem an den unterschiedlichsten Stellen eine ganze Menge Teile schlichtweg fehlten und blanke Aluminiumteile sich mit lackierten Serienstücken in der Karosserie abwechselten. Wer genauer hinsah und die kleine Hinweistafel neben dem rechten Vorderrad las, konnte erfahren, was sich hinter diesem Objekt verbarg. Im Prinzip war es ein gewöhnlicher 928er, der im Sinne einer Erprobung mit neuen Details ausgestattet wurde. Nur für den Messeauftritt wurde der Wagen an zig Stellen aufgeschnitten und gestattete damit dem Betrachter einen einzigartigen Einblick in die innere Struktur des Experimental-Porsches. Beispielsweise wurde die Beifahrertüre bewusst herausgetrennt und stellte bildhaft dar, wie auf der Suche nach einem noch höheren Sicherheitsstandard neue Verstrebungen getestet wurden. An anderen Bereichen hingegen galt das Augenmerk einer Erhöhung des Komforts und an anderen Stellen wurde der Wunsch nach einer besseren Umweltbilanz mit Neuerungen umgesetzt. Die exakten Ziele und die damit einhergehenden Verbesserungen blieben natürlich weiterhin ein Betriebsgeheimnis, doch eine Devise war auch ohne große technische Hintergründe nachvollziehbar - je leichter das Auto war, desto weniger Treibstoff verbrauchte es. Die Reduzierung des Gewichts wurde über eine weitaus umfangreichere Verwendung von Aluminium erreicht, als sie im Serienbau üblich war.

Durch die umgesetzten Besonderheiten, die größtenteils dem Sicherheitsaspekt entsprachen, kursierte der Experimental-Porsche schon bald unter dem Titel `Sicherheitsauto` in den Printmedien. Die Experimentalstudie geriet bis heute nicht in Vergessenheit, dafür sorgte ein Auftritt auf der `Techno Classica` sowie seine Präsenz im hauseigenen Porsche-Museum.

The Model of the Year 2020 comes together with a 184 pages book. The "AutoCult Edition 2020” is a different kind of book - it is THE book for the automotive enthusiast who wants to learn more about the many stories of long forgotten automobiles, brands and other developments. Whether rare, fast or strange – many interesting stories in conjunction with precise historical accuracy, flanked by many historical photographs and illustrations of AutoCult models, make this book (as well as all future editions) a reading experience for those interested in automotive history.

At the ‘8. International Technical Conference for Experimental Vehicles’ in October 1980, an exhibition rather unknown to ordinary motorists and public, Porsche exhibited a Type 928, to which the abbreviation ‘PES’ was attached. These three letters did not identify a new vehicle type, but stood for ‘Porsche Experimental Structure’.

At first glance, the cutaway model looked like a partially-finished car as many parts were not installed and bare aluminum components were fitted with specially painted parts within the body structure. A small sign displayed along with the unusual Porsche 928 explained that this was actually a production 928 model fitted with new parts and materials specifically for the purpose of testing and technical innovation. The bodywork was cutaway in numerous locations specifically to showcase innovative ideas that were potential evolutionary advances that would be of interest to technical people attending the conference. For example, the passenger door was purposely removed to depict how new struts and safety ideas were tested to exceed the currently accepted safety standard. In other areas that were visibly different, the focus was placed on increasing passenger comfort with the goal of creating a better environmental balance using innovative materials. The exact goals and degree of technical improvement remained trade secrets with Porsche, but one overall goal was obvious to all in attendance: new materials that were lighter in weight could reduce fuel consumption in daily use. This goal was apparent even to those attendees without a deep technical background. The reduction in weight was achieved through innovative use of advance aluminum materials far more extensively than in current production models.

Due to the numerous special and safety features of the cutaway Porsche 928 PES, soon the vehicle was known as the “Safety Car”; a title created by the motorsport print media. The unique Porsche has not been forgotten as it has been presented at the annual ‘Techno Classica’ and is a highlighted presentation in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.

Pour cette nouvelle édition 2020 du livre "AutoCult ", ce sont 184 pages d'un livre vraiment unique, LE livre de tous les passionnés de l'auto pour tout connaître sur les nombreuses histoires de voitures rares, rapides, étranges ou oubliées depuis longtemps, ou encore sur la vie des marques et autres développements. Le lecteur trouvera de nombreuses histoires passionnantes d'une précision historique poussée, enrichies de nombreuses photographies et illustrations historiques. Toutes ces "petites" histoires font de ce livre (ainsi que pour toutes les éditions futures) une expérience de lecture qui ravira tous ceux qui s'intéressent à la grande Histoire de l'automobile. Un livre à offrir ou à s'offrir.

Le « 8 ». Seuls les spécialistes et amateurs éclairés connaissent probablement cette conférence technique internationale pour les véhicules expérimentaux. En octobre 1980, Porsche y présentait une 928 PES (PES signifiant «Porsche Experimental Structure»).

Le modèle apparaissait en « coupe ». Des éléments de la structure étaient partiellement découpés et laissaient apparaître le détail des composants en aluminium, recouverts d’une peinture visuellement attractive. Un petit panneau installé à côté du véhicule, fait inhabituel, expliquait qu'il s'agissait d'un modèle de production 928 équipé de nouvelles pièces et matériaux spécifiquement conçus à des fins de test et d'innovation technique. La carrosserie était découpée aux endroits stratégiques pour présenter, aux techniciens participant à la conférence, des idées innovantes et avancées évolutives potentielles. Par exemple, la porte du passager a été délibérément retirée pour présenter de nouvelles jambes de force et des idées de sécurité, testées pour dépasser la norme de sécurité en vigueur. Dans d'autres domaines, l'accent a été mis sur l'augmentation du confort des passagers dans le but de créer un meilleur équilibre environnemental à l'aide de matériaux innovants. Bien sûr, Porsche préservait ses innovations et ses véritables objectifs restaient des secrets commerciaux. Toutefois, un objectif était évident pour tous les participants : de nouveaux matériaux plus légers pourraient réduire la consommation de carburant au quotidien. Cet objectif était compréhensible même pour les participants sans connaissances techniques approfondies. La réduction du poids obtenu grâce à l'utilisation innovante de matériaux de pointe en aluminium est beaucoup plus grande que dans les modèles de production actuels.

En raison des nombreuses caractéristiques spéciales et de sécurité de cette Porsche 928 PES en coupe, le véhicule fut bientôt connu sous le nom de « Safety Car », titre créé par la presse écrite du sport automobile. Cette unique Porsche n’a pas été oubliée car elle a été présentée à la «Techno Classica» annuelle et reste une attraction vedette au Musée Porsche de Stuttgart.
